WOLVERINE FOOTWEAR
A tradition of success. In 1883, G.A. Krause founded the Hirth-Krause company in Rockford, Michigan after his family immigrated from Prussia in the early 1800's. Krause was a third generation leather tanner and boot maker and prided himself in creating finely tanned leathers which in turn created comfortable and durable footwear. Krause's best selling model was the Wolverine 1000 Mile Shoe, which was originally crafted from a special tanning process using shell-horsehide. The 1000 Mile shoe was so durable and comfortable it was said to give you 1000 miles of wear. The Wolverine brand was one of the first nationally advertised footwear brands in the U.S telling farmers the benefits of Wolverine shell-horsehide and the 1000 mile shoe.
